Sarah Brightman is the best-selling soprano of all time because she's not really a soprano, in the operatic sense. She's a transcontinental pop star who can hit high notes (kind of). Like 2003's "Harem," "Symphony" will lend nicely to an ornate touring spectacle, but not of the Arabian hip-swiveling kind: This collection plays Brightman's inherent Goth card. "Fleurs du Mal" rocks out like symphonic Led Zeppelin, with power strings and a full choir backing Brightman's breathy bleating. Andrea Bocelli's commanding tenor saves "Canto Della Terra," and Kiss' Paul Stanley does admirably on the out-of-place "I Will Be With You," which also gets the epic orchestral treatment, despite its folky structure. But apparently if you load the dominant preferences of every country on earth into the music mash-up machine, this is the stuff that pops out. Who are we to judge? —Kerri Mason

There’s a lot to do on the Web, and Firefox 2 is full of helpful features to make your time online more productive.

Improved Tabbed Browsing
We love tabs as much as you do, so Firefox 2 will open new web pages in tabs by default. Each of those tabs has its own close button, but don’t worry - if you accidentally close a tab, just go to the History menu to bring it back from the list of “Recently Closed Tabs.” You’ll never be crunched for space anymore, either. When you have too many tabs open to comfortably fit in a single window, scroll arrows will appear on either side, and a button on the right side will always show you an easy-to-read list of all your open tabs.
Spell Checking
Sometimes you’re in a rush, and can’t remember if it’s “i” before “e” or the other way around. Firefox 2 has built-in spell checking to keep you from making any mistakes in your blog posts and Web-based email, so you can worry about more important things.
Search Suggestions
Some of the search engines in Firefox 2 can read your mind, and actually suggest search terms for what you’re looking for. Just start typing into the Search bar, and a drop down list of suggestions will appear. (Works for Google, Yahoo! and Answers.com.)
Session Restore
Losing your place while you’re doing things on the Web is a pain. Now, with Session Restore, if Firefox has to restart or closes when it comes back you’ll pick up exactly where you left off. The windows and tabs you were using, the text you typed into forms, and the in-progress downloads you had running will all be restored. You can even set Firefox 2 to always restore your previous session instead of loading a home page, so you’ll never lose your place again.
Web Feeds (RSS)
What do news headlines, indie rock podcasts, and pictures of kittens have in common? They’re all things that you can subscribe to with Web feeds. Firefox 2 gives you full control over Web feeds, showing you a preview and letting you choose how you want to subscribe. You can use a Firefox Live Bookmark, or a feed reader that you’ve installed on your computer, or through a Web service such as My Yahoo!, Bloglines or Google Reader.
Live Titles
Keep an eye on that auction or the status of a delivery using the new Live Titles feature in Firefox 2. Compact enough to fit as a bookmark label, Live Titles are regularly updated summaries of the most important information on a Web page. As the information on the page gets updated, so does your Live Title. Try one out in Firefox 2 by bookmarking http://www.woot.com/.
Integrated Search
Firefox helps you find whatever it is that you’re looking for. The Search bar comes pre-loaded with search engines for Google, Yahoo!, Amazon, eBay, Answers.com, and Creative Commons. Wherever you are on the Web, you can enter a search term in the Search bar and receive immediate answers from the search engine you’ve chosen. You can select a new search engine from the Search bar menu at any time, and add search engines from hundreds of your favorite Web sites.
Live Bookmarks
Firefox Live Bookmarks let you view Web feeds such as news and blog headlines in the bookmarks toolbar or menu. With one glance, quickly review the latest headlines from your favorite sites and click to go directly to the articles that interest you.
Pop-up Blocker
Firefox keeps you in control of the Web pages you’re viewing, blocking annoying pop-ups. Firefox’s pop-up blocker notifies you when pop-ups are blocked via the information bar or icon on the lower right of the screen.

Beyonce, Foo Fighters, Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna are among the performers confirmed for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, to be held Feb. 10 at Los Angeles' Staples Center. As previously reported, the Foo Fighters will perform as part of this year's "My Grammy Moment," produced in partnership with YouTube and CBS.com. The segment gives up to 20 unsigned musicians the opportunity to play with the rock group as part of an orchestra that will be arranged by special guest conductor John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame. Aretha Franklin, who is the 2008 MusicCares Person of the Year, will share the stage with Blige, the Clark Sisters, Israel And New Breed, the Madison Bumblebees and Trin-I-Tee 5:7 for a gospel segment. And in a special 50th anniversary moment, Rihanna will perform with the Time, which is reuniting for the occasion. The show will be broadcast by CBS in HDTV, on XM Satellite Radio via Westwood One Worldwide and online on Grammy.com.

Flo Rida Remains No. 1, But Brown Closes In

Flo Rida's "Low" continues to reign supreme on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week, and also inches into the top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the first time with a 12-10 climb. It is also No. 1 on the Rhythmic Airplay and Hot Rap Songs charts. "Low" isn't really being challenged by the tracks at Nos. 2 and 3 on the Hot 100; Alicia Keys' "No One" and Timbaland's "Apologize" featuring OneRepublic remain in those positions for a third consecutive week. But there's a new contender for the crown in the form of Chris Brown's "With You," which rises 6-4 and is both the fastest growing track at digital outlets and at radio. The song sold 100,000 downloads, prompting a 9-2 jump on Hot Digital Songs. Fergie's "Clumsy" rests at No. 5 on the Hot 100, as another Brown song, "Kiss Kiss" featuring T-Pain, drops 4-6 and Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" lurches 13-7, her seventh top 10 on the chart. 'Enchanted' Dominates Oscar Song Category

Songs from the film "Enchanted" dominated the best original song category nominees for the 2008 Academy Awards, which were announced this morning (Jan. 22). Three of the five nods, all with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, went to the film in the form of "Happy Working Song," "So Close" and "That's How You Know." The other nominees are "Raise It Up" from "August Rush," the music and lyric credits for which are "to be determined," according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and "Falling Slowly" from "Once," with music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. A notable omission in the category was Eddie Vedder's "Guaranteed" from "Into the Wild," which won a Golden Globe for best original song last weekend. In the best original score category, the nominees are Dario Marianelli for "Atonement," Alberto Iglesias for "The Kite Runner, James Newton Howard for "Michael Clayton," Michael Giacchino for "Ratatouille" and Marco Beltrami for "3:10 to Yuma." With eight nominations each, "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood," lead the overall field. The other best picture contenders are "Atonement," "Juno" and "Michael Clayton." Mariah Rolls With T-Pain, Dupri On New Album !!!

Mariah Carey has set an April 1 release date for the follow-up to her mega-selling album "The Emancipation of Mimi," which was the biggest selling album of 2005. Dubbed "That Chick," the set features production from Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am and Rodney Jerkins, plus collaborations with the likes of T-Pain and Damian Marley.

The album veers between breezy pop tunes like "Lovin' You Long Time" and the title track, ballads like "Love Story" and urban club bangers like the standout "Migrate."

The latter features T-Pain in a guest slot, providing the counterpoint to Carey's anthemic "single girls on the town" lyrics with the killer line: "Don't wait for me to buy drinks, or you're going to dehydrate."

Other highlights include the frisky R&B of "Touch My Body," with Carey cooing, "If there's a camera up in here then I best not catch this flick on YouTube," and the catchy "OOC" -- short for "out of control." There's also a new sound for Carey on "Cruise Control," which features Marley and sees the artist try her hand at Jamaican patois.

"It's kind of strange but I heard a lot of her records and it sound like the album is better than the last album," Dupri recently told Billboard. Additional reporting by Clover Hope

Mario is certainly a fine singer, and his 2004 ballad "Let Me Love You" remains a modern R&B classic. Problem is, he's failed to consistently hold our attention. While third album "Go" shows a necessary maturation, the disc is short on standouts. At 21, Mario still struggles to find his adult sound, hitting dead ends with cuts like "Kryptonite" and the preachy "Do Right." Artistic progress is better-reflected on lead single "How Do I Breathe," "Right and a Wrong Way"—where the singer sports a Maxwell-ian falsetto—and the Polow Da Don-crafted "Crying Out for Me," which makes great use of his begging vocals. Mario wants to "Go" forward, and it seems like he's ready. He's just not sure where he's headed. —Clover Hope

Review : Mary J. Blige's new album : Growing Pains !

Now that she's banished the drama and achieved her "Breakthrough," Mary J. Blige is in a good space. Fans used to hearing her pour her pain out on record will just have to get used to that. The singer's latest effort, "Growing Pains," much like its phenomenal 2006 predecessor "The Breakthrough," focuses more on learning and progressing than dwelling and wallowing. The cheery lead single "Just Fine" finds Blige proclaiming, "No more time for moping around, are you kidding?/And no time for negative vibes, 'cause I'm winning." This happy-go-lucky state sometimes makes for less compelling stories and yields too much flowery empowerment language. But the disc picks up near the end, when Blige allows for venting over more downcast rhythms like the Stargate-produced "Fade Away," where she longs to be invisible, and "Smoke." Upbeat or solemn, though, the message is clear: Keep on trucking.—Clover G. Hope
